Dr. Sylvia Rimm will inspire girls and their parents with her stories of how girls became successful women. Research findings are based on extensive questionnaires completed by over 1000 successful women in nontraditional and traditional careers. Over 100 women were also interviewed. The nontraditional careers from which women were selected included science and technology, government, business administration, media leadership, medicine, law, orchestral music, and the visual arts. Traditional careers included education, mental health, allied health, and homemaking.
School and life achievement patterns for girls and women differ considerably from those of boys and men. This presentation will provide the main themes in the childhoods of these successful women and feature research-based advice for raising and teaching girls.
